Wonderful Philosophers Falls.

Philosopher Falls - Tasmania

Philosopher Falls is a stunning waterfall located 9 kilometres from the town of Waratah, in north-west Tasmania. This beautiful multi-tiered waterfall is surrounded by stunning rainforests. The walk is 2 kilometres return on a grade 3 track and will take about 90 minutes.

Follow the gently undulating walking track, which runs along the old water race, then down about 200 steps to the Falls lookout. Here, you will have a great view of the excellent Philosopher Falls.

Philosopher Falls was named after James "Philosopher" Smith, who discovered Tin in the Waratah area in 1871.

The walk through the unspoilt rainforest is impressive, with a large variety of fungi to observe along the track.

Directions to Philosopher Falls

From Waratah, head south on William Street (B23) towards English Street and continue for 9.6 kilometres.

Turn right onto Butler's Road and continue for 1.5 kilometres until you reach the car parking area. This road is unsealed but suitable for 2WD vehicles.
