Duckhole Lake
Nestled in the heart of Tasmania’s wilderness, the Duckhole Lake walk offers a serene escape for nature lovers and casual walkers alike. This short, easy trail winds through lush forest and around the reflective waters of Duckhole Lake, providing peaceful views, birdwatching opportunities, and a chance to immerse yourself in the island’s tranquil landscapes. Perfect for a quick outdoor adventure, it’s a walk that showcases the quiet beauty of Tasmania’s hidden gems without requiring a full day in the bush.
This delightful, tranquil lake is actually a flooded sinkhole. You can discover it in the Southwest National Park; it is part of the extensive regional cave and karst system that includes Hastings Caves.
Duckhole Lake is a peaceful place to sit and listen to the birds and frogs while you have a picnic; you may even see a platypus.
Duckhole Lake is one of the 60 Great Short Walks
of Tasmania
The Walk - 4.2 kilometres Circuit - 1.5 Hours - Grade 2
The Duckhole Lake walking track starts on Creekton Road, approximately 15 kilometres from Hastings; the road is unsealed but suitable for 2WD Vehicles. There is a small carpark on the side of the road. You will see the shorts walk sign on the opposite side of the road from the carpark.
Begin by wandering along the flat, narrow track alongside the Creekton Rivulet. The path is lined with beautiful ferns, and is a very relaxing stroll.
The track becomes a boardwalk and weaves through the beautiful forest about a kilometre towards Duckhole Lake.
When you are nearly there, you will cross over a bridge and continue for a short distance until you step out of the thick forest and see a perfectly still lake with Adamsons Peak in the background.
The lake's unique reflections make it an excellent spot to sit, relax, and enjoy the tranquillity.
