Evercreech Forest Reserve
Evercreech Forest Reserve is a hidden gem in Tasmania’s northeast near St Marys, offering visitors a peaceful escape into lush forest surroundings. The reserve features two short but rewarding walking trails that showcase the area’s natural beauty. On one walk, you can visit Evercreech Falls, a charming cascade tucked among ferns and moss-covered rocks, where the soothing sound of flowing water creates a tranquil atmosphere.
The other trail leads to the famous “White Knights” — towering white eucalyptus gums that rise majestically from the forest floor, their pale bark and grand presence making them truly awe-inspiring. Both walks are easy and suitable for families, providing an immersive experience of Tasmania’s unique flora and serene wilderness, perfect for photography, a gentle stroll, or simply connecting with nature.
In the shady forest alongside the South Esk River, there are picnic tables, toilets, a shelter shed, and barbecues.
Evercreech is one of the 60 Great Short Walks
of Tasmania
The Walk - 1 kilometre - 20 Minutes - Grade 2
This short and easy wander to see the ‘White Knights’ is along a well-maintained track with boardwalk sections through a beautiful forest.
The magnificent "White Knights" are giant white gums of the Eucalyptus viminalis species and are the tallest of their type in Australia, reaching over 90 metres in height.
You can take a shorter 5-minute walk to see them or continue the loop walk by heading up the hill, where you will have lovely elevated views over the forest. This section is a little steeper, with steps along the way.
Evercreech Falls Walk
The Walk - 2.1 kilometres - 40 Minutes - Grade 2
The walk is along an undulating track along the edge of the Evercreech Rivulet through a beautiful, thick forest. Evercreech Falls is a small waterfall that drops approximately 5 minutes down the rocks into the river below.
There are two ways to get to the falls and back.
Option 1 - Start at the bridge opposite the start of the "White Knights" walk, follow the track and the yellow markers until you reach the falls, and then return the same way.
Option 2—Start at the car parking area and follow the track to the waterfall. On this track, you will need to cross the Evercreech River, which can be slippery. There is a rope across the river to help you cross.
