Hidden deep within the lush rainforest of Mount Field National Park, Lady Barron Falls is a graceful, multi-tiered waterfall that cascades gently over the rocks before flowing into the creek below. Dropping around 8 metres, the falls may be smaller than nearby icons, but they are beautifully set and especially impressive after good rainfall.

Reaching Lady Barron Falls is part of a rewarding forest circuit that showcases some of Mount Field’s best features, including Russell Falls, Horseshoe Falls, and the towering giants of the Tall Trees Walk.

The Lady Barron Falls Circuit Walk

This scenic circuit offers a wonderful mix of waterfalls, rainforest, and giant eucalypts, making it one of the most enjoyable longer walks in the park.

Lady Barron Falls Walk Details

6 kilometres - Allow around 2 hours - Grade 2

The walk begins behind the Mount Field National Park Visitor Centre, following the well-maintained track toward Russell Falls. This first section is flat and easy, winding alongside a picturesque creek through lush forest.

Russell Falls & Horseshoe Falls

The circuit first brings you to the famous Russell Falls, one of Tasmania’s most photographed waterfalls. From here, the track climbs steeply but briefly up to Horseshoe Falls, another beautiful cascade set within a natural forest amphitheatre.

Take time to enjoy both waterfalls before continuing deeper into the rainforest.

Tall Trees Walk

After Horseshoe Falls, retrace your steps slightly, cross the bridge, and continue along the circuit for around 1.5 kilometres to reach the Tall Trees Walk. This easy 1-kilometre loop winds through a forest of giant swamp gums (Eucalyptus regnans) — the tallest flowering plants on Earth. Standing beneath these towering trees is a humbling and unforgettable experience.

Reaching Lady Barron Falls

From the Tall Trees Walk, continue along the circuit, crossing Lake Dobson Road, then follow the track for another 1 kilometre to reach Lady Barron Falls. A viewing platform at the base of the falls offers a lovely spot to pause, enjoy the scenery, and take photos of the water cascading over multiple tiers.

Completing the Circuit

After visiting Lady Barron Falls, the track continues back toward the Visitor Centre along an undulating forest trail. There is a steep staircase to climb midway through this section, adding a little challenge before the gentle descent back to the start.
