Silverband Falls - Grampians National Park
Silverband Falls is a picturesque seasonal waterfall tucked into the rugged heart of the Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park. After rainfall, water spills gently about 20 metres down a series of terraced sandstone ledges, creating a delicate curtain of flowing streams as it tumbles over the rocks below. Unlike the park’s more powerful waterfalls, Silverband Falls has a softer, more peaceful beauty, making it a lovely spot to pause, listen to the water, and enjoy the surrounding bushland.
Located around 260 kilometres west of Melbourne, the Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park is one of Victoria’s most iconic natural landscapes. The park is renowned for its dramatic mountain ranges, scenic hiking trails, breathtaking lookouts, cascading waterfalls, and rich wildlife, including kangaroos, emus, and a diverse array of birdlife. Visiting Silverband Falls offers a gentle and rewarding introduction to the natural charm that makes the Grampians such a special destination.
Silverband Falls Walk - 1.6 kilometres - 45 Minutes - Easy
The walk to Silverband Falls begins at the Silverband Falls car park, where a flat and well-formed track gently leads you into dense native bushland alongside the flowing waters of Dairy Creek.
As you wander along, take time to notice the wide variety of wildflowers, delicate ferns, and fascinating fungi lining the edges of the track, especially during the cooler and wetter months. Birdsong often fills the air, adding to the peaceful atmosphere of the walk.
Soon, you’ll reach a small bridge crossing Dairy Creek, where you can pause to watch the clear water winding its way through the rocky creek bed below. From here, the track gradually narrows, and the vegetation becomes thicker, creating a lovely sense of anticipation as the sound of flowing water grows louder.
A short distance later, the bush opens to reveal the base of Silverband Falls, where water trickles gracefully over the terraced cliffs above, completing this gentle and rewarding walk.
When you reach the end of the track, you arrive at the base of Silverband Falls, where the waterfall reveals its beauty. Water drapes softly over the terraced sandstone cliffs above, forming fine silver streams that shimmer as they tumble down the rock face. The shallow rock pools and moss-covered ledges create a peaceful, almost hidden-garden atmosphere, while the surrounding cliffs and bushland frame the falls beautifully. It’s a quiet, relaxing spot to pause, take photos, and enjoy the gentle sound of water flowing in one of the Grampians’ most tranquil waterfall settings.
Tips for walking to Silverband Falls
Distance & duration: The walk is about 1.2 km return and takes around 20–30 minutes at a leisurely pace.
Flat and easy: The track is mostly flat and suitable for most fitness levels, families, and children.
Wear sturdy shoes: While the track is easy, it can be slippery after rain, especially near the creek.
Best after rain: Silverband Falls is seasonal, so the waterfall is most impressive after recent rainfall.
Bring water and sun protection: Parts of the track are exposed, so carry water and wear a hat or sunscreen.
Enjoy the wildlife: Keep an eye out for native birds, frogs, and small animals along the creek and in the bush.
Photography tips: The base of the falls is perfect for photos—try capturing the terraced streams and moss-covered rocks.

Directions to Silverband Falls Carpark
From Halls Gap, head south on Grampians Road (C216) towards Mackeys Peak Road for 6.8 kilometres. Then turn right onto Silverband Road (C218). After 1.3 kilometres, you will see the carpark on the right.
