Stunning Boat Harbour Beach, Tasmania.

Boat Harbour Beach, Tasmania - Beachside Paradise on Tasmania's North West Coast

Boat Harbour Beach is one of Tasmania’s most breathtaking seaside destinations, tucked away on the north-west coast, just a short drive from Wynyard and Burnie. Framed by rocky headlands and rolling green hills, this pristine beach curves gently around a sheltered bay, revealing powdery white sand and crystal-clear water that shifts through shades of aquamarine and deep blue.

It’s the kind of place that feels almost tropical on a calm day — a beach that invites you to slow down, kick off your shoes, and simply enjoy the beauty of Tasmania’s coastline.

A Perfect Beach for Swimming and Relaxing

Thanks to its protected position, Boat Harbour Beach is one of the best swimming beaches in northwest Tasmania. The water is often calm, clear, and inviting, making it ideal for families, casual swimmers, and anyone wanting a refreshing dip on a warm day.

At low tide, rocky outcrops at either end of the beach form fascinating rock pools, where you can spot small fish, crabs, and other marine life. It’s a lovely place to explore slowly, especially with children.

Wildlife and Natural Beauty

Boat Harbour Beach feels wonderfully unspoilt, and wildlife sightings are part of the experience. Dolphins are often seen cruising just offshore, while seals occasionally rest on nearby rocks. During migration season, you may even spot whales passing along the coast.

Above the beach, grassy slopes and coastal vegetation frame the bay, creating a postcard-perfect scene that changes with the light throughout the day.

Coastal Walks and Headland Views

For those who enjoy stretching their legs, the headlands surrounding Boat Harbour Beach offer short coastal walks with sweeping views across Bass Strait. From these elevated vantage points, you can look back over the curve of the beach and out toward the open ocean — particularly beautiful in the early morning or late afternoon light.

Picnic Spots and Local Amenities

Boat Harbour Beach is well set up for visitors. There are grassy picnic areas, toilets, and easy beach access, making it a comfortable spot to spend a few hours or an entire day.

Just above the beach, the surf club café is a popular stop for classic seaside fare. Enjoy fish and chips, an ice cream, or a coffee while taking in the view — a simple pleasure that perfectly suits this relaxed coastal setting.

Best Time to Visit

Boat Harbour Beach is beautiful year-round, but it truly shines on calm, sunny days when the water turns a brilliant blue. Early mornings are peaceful and quiet, while sunset brings soft golden light across the bay and headlands — a wonderful way to end the day.

Getting to Boat Harbour Beach

Boat Harbour Beach is approximately 14.5 kilometres from Wynyard. From Goldie Street in Wynyard, turn left onto York Street, then take the third exit at the roundabout onto the Bass Highway (A2). Follow the Bass Highway for 9.3 kilometres, then turn right onto Port Road (C232). Turn left onto Cummings Street, which leads directly to Boat Harbour Beach.

Final Thoughts

Boat Harbour Beach is one of those places that stays with you long after you leave. With its pristine sand, clear water, abundant wildlife, and relaxed coastal vibe, it perfectly captures the beauty of Tasmania’s north-west coast. Whether you’re swimming, exploring rock pools, enjoying fish and chips by the sea, or simply soaking up the view, Boat Harbour Beach is a destination well worth the visit.
