Lara Wetlands, Queensland - Artesian Pool, Amazing Birdlife & Stunning Sunsets
Set on a vast working cattle station in Outback Queensland, Lara Wetlands is one of those special outback camps that instantly slows you down. With steaming artesian water, mirror-still wetlands, abundant birdlife, and wide-open skies, it’s a peaceful bush camp where sunrise and sunset become daily rituals and evenings are spent around the fire under the stars.
We stayed 3 nights at Lara Wetlands and loved the beautiful, peaceful location and the amazing artesian pool. You don't need to book you can just drive in, pay at the office and chose a campsite.
📍 Where Is Lara Wetlands?
Lara Wetlands is located on a 15,000-acre cattle station, around 28 kilometres south of Barcaldine and 78 kilometres north of Blackall.
The camp is open from April through to the end of September (weather dependent) making it a perfect winter escape for travellers chasing warm days, cool nights, and classic outback scenery.
Getting There - The Outback Drive In
From the Landsborough Highway, access to Lara Wetlands is via 13 kilometres of red dirt road. This road is driven daily by two-wheel drives, four-wheel drives, caravans, motorhomes, buses, and trucks. Conditions vary depending on weather, so it’s important to drive to the conditions, take your time, and obey the speed signs. Once you arrive, the sense of space and calm makes the journey well worth it.
We drove in with our 7-metre 2WD Motorhome with no problems - but check their Facebook Page or ring ahead if its been raining to check the condition of the road.
