Meander Forest Reserve - Tasmania
Meander Forest Reserve is a spectacular natural area within the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, covering around 1,700 hectares of pristine forest. Located just 24 kilometres from Deloraine, the reserve is tucked into the rugged slopes of the Great Western Tiers, offering visitors a serene escape into Tasmania’s unique wilderness.
The reserve is dominated by cool temperate rainforest and wet eucalypt forest, with ancient myrtle, sassafras, and towering eucalypts creating a lush canopy. Winding walking tracks and picnic spots allow visitors to explore the forest, listen to the soothing sounds of birds and rushing streams, and take in sweeping views of the surrounding mountains. Meander Forest Reserve is also a haven for native wildlife, including platypus, wallabies, and a variety of bird species, making it a must-visit destination for bushwalkers, nature photographers, and anyone seeking a peaceful, immersive natural experience in northern Tasmania.
There are many great walks and hikes in the Meander State Reserve. The most popular is the challenging hike to Meander Falls. However, there are several other hikes to impressive waterfalls, including Bastion Cascades, Split Rock Falls & Shower Cave Falls, and Chasm Falls.

This long 10-kilometre return walk climbs through a beautiful wet forest to one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Tasmania. The Meander Falls plunge steeply in two separate tiers through an aperture in the Great Western Tiers.
The track to the falls starts alongside the lovely Meander River and takes approx. Three hours to reach the falls. It is pretty rocky, and there are some steep and muddy sections.
