Pencil Pine Falls
Pencil Pine Falls, located in the stunning Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park in Tasmania, is a serene waterfall nestled among ancient pencil pine trees and lush rainforest. Thisshort, easy walk allows visitors to enjoy the peaceful cascades and the surrounding natural beauty, making it a perfect spot for photography and a quiet nature escape.
The Pencil Pine River cascades 10 metres over a rocky outcrop, creating Pencil Pine Falls.
Pencil Pine Falls can be viewed from the top if you take the Rainforest Walk. This easy 10-minute walk starts behind the Ranger Station and Interpretation Centre on Cradle Mountain.
Take your time to wander through the cool temperate rainforest of pencil pines and myrtle, and you can view the beautiful Pencil Pine Falls from the viewing deck.
If you take the Knyvet Falls Walk, you can get a close-up view of the top of Pencil Pine Falls and access the base of Pencil Pine Falls. This walk is accessed across from the Lodge shop; the track is a fully constructed boardwalk that takes you to a lookout to view the waterfall.
Pencil Pine Cascades can be viewed from the bridge near the road next to the Cradle Mountain Lodge.
Directions to Pencil Pine Falls at Cradle Mountain
Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park is located in the middle of the island of Tasmania and is easily accessible from the island's two main towns, Hobart and Launceston.
The northern entrance is from the town of Sheffield, about a 1.5-hour drive from Launceston.
Parking - You need to Park at the Visitors Centre Car Park, then get a shuttle bus ticket with your National Park Pass. Take the shuttle bus to the Rangers Station/Interpretative Centre to begin these walks.
