Queen Mary Falls, Queensland - A Classic Waterfall Near Killarney
Located near the charming town of Killarney, Queen Mary Falls is one of Southern Queensland’s most beautiful and accessible waterfalls. Cascading 40 metres into a lush gorge below, the falls are surrounded by a mix of rainforest and open eucalypt woodland, creating a peaceful bushland setting that feels both dramatic and relaxing. With easy walking tracks, scenic lookouts and picnic areas, Queen Mary Falls is a perfect stop for families, nature lovers and photographers alike.
One of the Wonders of Falls Drive
Queen Mary Falls is part of the famous Falls Drive, a scenic route that also includes Daggs Falls and Browns Falls. Exploring this area gives you the chance to experience changing forest landscapes — from fragrant eucalypt ridgelines to cool, shaded rainforest — all within a short drive.
Walking Tracks for Every Pace
Queen Mary Falls offers two well-maintained walking tracks, making it easy to tailor your visit to your time and energy levels.
Cliff Circuit – An easy 400-metre walk taking around 20 minutes, leading to a viewing platform overlooking the falls.
Queen Mary Falls Circuit – A 2-kilometre return walk (around 40 minutes) for those wanting to explore further, descending from the lookout at the top down to the base of the falls.
From the picnic area, the track follows a eucalypt-topped ridgeline before dropping into the lush rainforest gorge below.
A View Worth the Walk
At the lookout, you can watch Spring Creek plunge dramatically over the cliff edge, sending mist drifting through the gorge below. On sunny days, rainbows often appear in the spray, adding to the magic of the scene. Continue along the circuit track to reach the valley floor, where you can feel the cool mist rise from the base of the waterfall — a refreshing reward, especially on a warm summer’s day.
World Heritage Wilderness
Queen Mary Falls forms part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area, recognised for its outstanding geological features, ancient evolutionary history and remarkable diversity of rare and endemic plant and animal species. Walking here feels like stepping into a living natural museum.
Getting to Queen Mary Falls
Queen Mary Falls is easy to reach by car. From Killarney, drive 2 kilometres south and turn onto Spring Creek Road (also known as Falls Drive). Continue for approximately 6.5 kilometres until you reach the clearly signposted car park for Queen Mary Falls.
