Hidden within the ancient rainforest of Springbrook National Park, near the Gold Coast, Purling Brook Falls is one of South East Queensland’s most impressive natural sights. Purling Brook Falls Lookout – A Short Walk

If you’re short on time, the Purling Brook Falls Lookout is an easy win. Just 300 metres from the carpark, this short walk leads to a viewing platform overlooking the top of the falls. From here, you’ll enjoy sweeping views across the rainforest canopy and down into the gorge below — a fantastic spot for photos and soaking in the scale of the landscape.

The Purling Brook Falls Circuit Walk

For a more immersive experience, the Purling Brook Falls Circuit is a must. This 4-kilometre loop walk takes approximately 2 hours return and includes around 265 steps. It’s recommended to walk the circuit clockwise, starting from the Springbrook Plateau, as this makes the descent and climb more manageable.

The track winds through lush subtropical rainforest, across creek crossings and down into the gorge, eventually bringing you to the base of the falls. Standing beneath the towering cascade, surrounded by rainforest walls, is a truly memorable experience — especially after rainfall when the waterfall is at its most powerful.

Getting to Purling Brook Falls

Springbrook National Park is easily accessible from both Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Allow approximately 1.5 hours from Brisbane or just under an hour from the Gold Coast.

From Robina Town Centre, head south onto the M1 (Pacific Motorway), then take the roundabout to Regency Place. At the next roundabout, take the first exit left onto Highway 99 (which becomes Gold Coast–Springbrook Road). Follow this road for around 25 kilometres, then turn left onto Forestry Road, where you’ll see signposts directing you to the Purling Brook Falls car park.

Visiting Tips

Best after rain – the falls are most impressive following rainfall.
Wear sturdy footwear – the circuit includes steps, uneven surfaces and slippery sections.
Allow extra time if you plan to do the full circuit walk.
Start early to enjoy cooler temperatures and fewer people.
Stay on marked tracks to protect the fragile rainforest environment.
