The Balconies - Grampians National Park
The Balconies are one of the most breathtaking lookouts in the Grampians National Park (Gariwerd), offering dramatic views of two rocky ledges that jut out over the towering cliffs about 700 metres above sea level. Just a short and easy walk from nearby Reeds Lookout, this iconic viewpoint delivers sweeping panoramas across the rugged mountain ranges, deep valleys, and distant plains below — especially magical at sunrise and sunset.
Located around 260 kilometres west of Melbourne, the Grampians are formed by five striking sandstone ridges that run north to south through the landscape. The eastern side features steep, rugged cliff faces and sheer drop-offs, while the western slopes are gentler and more rounded. This contrast creates the park’s signature dramatic scenery and makes it one of Victoria’s most unforgettable natural destinations.
The Balconies Walk - 2 kilometres - 1 Hour - Easy
The walk starts from the Reeds Lookout carpark, which has beautiful views over Victoria Valley, Lake Wartook, Victoria Range, and the Serra Ranges. The wide dirt track gently meanders through the open forest, with a lovely selection of wildflowers along its edges.
As you wander along the track, you will see some fascinating rock formations and pass over a small bridge. There are several seats along the way where you can sit, relax, and enjoy the tranquillity.
When you arrive at The Balconies, there are two viewing platforms with great views across the valley, and on the left, you will see The Balconies. The Balconies have now been fenced off, and it is not advisable to climb out onto them for safety reasons.
