Barossa Valley Top 10 Wineries - Wine, History, Art, and Views

The Barossa Valley is one of Australia’s most famous wine regions, celebrated around the world for its bold Shiraz, historic vineyards and welcoming cellar doors. Just over an hour’s drive from Adelaide, the Barossa is home to more than 150 wineries ranging from historic family estates to innovative modern producers. Many of the vineyards here contain some of the oldest producing vines in the world, and the region’s rich winemaking heritage dates back to the 1840s when European settlers began planting grapes in the fertile valley.

Whether you’re a wine enthusiast or simply looking to experience the Barossa Valley's relaxed country charm, visiting a few of the region’s iconic wineries is one of the best ways to discover its flavours and stories. Here are 10 of the best wineries in the Barossa Valley to add to your itinerary.

1837 Barossa – Wine, Art and Spectacular Views

Perched on a hill near Lyndoch, 1837 Barossa combines winemaking, history and some of the most impressive panoramic views in the valley. Named in honour of the year European settlement began in South Australia, the estate offers cellar door tastings, a restaurant and the striking Barossa Colonel Light Monument nearby. One of our favourite parts of the visit was the 1837 Barossa Art Trail, a free walking trail featuring contemporary sculptures by international artists. And of course, we couldn’t resist the giant baroque picture frame, perfectly framing the same view William Light saw when he named the Barossa. Just outside, the 12-metre-long “Welcome to the Barossa” sign makes a fun, free spot for a group photo. 1837 Barossa produces a range of wines, including Shiraz, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon, and its scenic location makes it a memorable stop for both wine lovers and sightseers.
