Beachport, South Australia - Jetties, Coastal Drives & Seaside Adventures on the Limestone Coast

Beachport is a charming coastal town on the shores of Rivoli Bay, located around 390 kilometres south of Adelaide on South Australia’s Limestone Coast. With its sweeping bay, historic buildings and laid-back holiday atmosphere, Beachport is a favourite destination for beach lovers, anglers and road trippers exploring the region. The town’s foreshore is a highlight, offering wide open spaces, ocean views and easy access to some of the Limestone Coast’s most memorable attractions.

Beachport Jetty and Foreshore

One of Beachport’s standout features is the Beachport Jetty, stretching an impressive 772 metres into Rivoli Bay. It is the second-longest jetty in South Australia and a popular spot for fishing, strolling and enjoying views back to town and along the coastline.

The surrounding foreshore is perfect for a relaxed walk, with grassy areas, picnic spots and plenty of space to enjoy the fresh sea air.

Exploring the Town Centre

Beachport’s compact town centre is easy to explore on foot. You’ll find several welcoming cafés, a bakery, a general store, a hotel, and the well-known Cray Pot, where you can purchase fresh rock lobster during the season. Historic buildings add character to the streets, and the town has a friendly, unhurried feel that makes it ideal for a longer stay or a leisurely stop on a coastal road trip.

Cape Martin Lighthouse

A short walk through the sand dunes from town brings you to the Cape Martin Lighthouse, perched above the coast with beautiful views across Rivoli Bay and the Southern Ocean. The lighthouse is a great spot for photography, especially at sunrise or sunset, when the colours of the sea and sky come alive.

Bowman Scenic Drive

To really appreciate Beachport’s rugged coastline, take a drive along the Bowman Scenic Drive. This scenic route follows the coast and offers access to a series of lookouts, each revealing dramatic views of cliffs, reefs and rolling surf. It’s an excellent way to see more of the area, and there are plenty of spots to pull over, stretch your legs and take photos.

Pool of Siloam

One of Beachport’s most unique attractions is the Pool of Siloam, a shallow salt lake located just out of town. The water here is said to be seven times saltier than the sea, making it incredibly buoyant. Floating in the Pool of Siloam is a fun and unusual experience, and the lake is especially popular on warm days when you want something a little different from ocean swimming.

Lagoon Walks and Sculptures

Near the Pool of Siloam, you can wander over bridges crossing the lagoon, where you’ll find a collection of interesting sculptures scattered through the area. It’s a peaceful place for a walk and offers another perspective on Beachport’s diverse coastal landscapes.

Canunda National Park

A short drive from Beachport brings you to Canunda National Park, one of the Limestone Coast’s most rugged and beautiful natural areas. The park features a spectacular coastline of limestone cliffs, long sandy beaches, sea stacks and offshore reefs. It’s a fantastic destination for bushwalking, surfing, snorkelling, swimming and fishing, as well as for simply enjoying the raw coastal scenery.

Within Canunda National Park, the Cape Buffon Track is a highlight. This coastal walk takes you past dramatic cliffs and ocean views, offering a true sense of the wild beauty that defines this part of the Limestone Coast.

Why Beachport Is Worth Visiting

Beachport offers a wonderful mix of seaside charm, natural attractions and rugged coastal adventure. From walking the jetty and floating in the Pool of Siloam to exploring scenic drives and nearby national parks, there’s plenty to see and do at a relaxed pace.

As part of the Limestone Coast, Beachport pairs perfectly with nearby destinations such as Robe, Kingston SE and Mount Gambier, making it an ideal stop on a South Australian coastal road trip.
