Guide Falls is a stunning waterfall located just a short drive from Wynyard and Burnie in Tasmania, making it a perfect destination for a quick nature escape. The Guide River plunges approximately 25 metres over a striking basalt rock face, creating the spectacular cascade that gives the falls their name.

Visitors can access Guide Falls via a well-maintained 300-metre path from the lower car park and picnic area, which runs alongside the tranquil Guide River. The gentle walk through lush surroundings leads directly to the base of the falls, where the sight and sound of the cascading water are truly mesmerising.

For a different perspective, stairs allow you to climb to two upper viewing platforms, offering panoramic views of Guide Falls and the surrounding forest. Alternatively, you can park in the upper area and take the stairs down to the base for a closer encounter with the falls.

Guide Falls is especially impressive after periods of heavy rainfall, when the river surges and the waterfall becomes a roaring spectacle. With its easy access, scenic walking path, and peaceful picnic areas, Guide Falls is a must-visit natural attraction in Northwest Tasmania.

Directions to Guide Falls

From Burnie to Guide Falls is approximately an 18-kilometre drive. Drive from Burnie CBD, drive South along Mount Street towards Ridgley, then turn right onto the Ridgley Highway. Continue on this road through the township of Ridgley, then turn right onto West Ridgley Road.

Drive about 2.3 kilometres on West Ridgley Rd until you see the sign for Guide Falls to the left (just before the bridge over the Guide River). You can then park in the lower carpark and picnic area, or continue further up the road to the upper area.
