Lovers Falls, Tasmania - A Hidden Waterfall You Can Only Access via the Pieman River

Tucked deep in Tasmania’s wild West Coast rainforest, Lovers Falls is a beautiful and peaceful waterfall experience that feels like a true adventure. Located near Corinna on the banks of the remote Pieman River, this waterfall is not reached by road or bush track, but by river journey, making it one of Tasmania’s most unique waterfall visits.

Surrounded by ancient rainforest and accessible only by kayak or guided cruise, Lovers Falls is the kind of place that rewards slow travel, curiosity, and a love of Tasmania’s untouched wilderness.

A Waterfall Reached by River

Lovers Falls drops around 40 metres over a rocky cliff into the Pieman River below, framed by dense, vibrant rainforest. The sound of rushing water echoes through the trees, adding to the sense of isolation and serenity that defines this part of Tasmania.

The waterfall is accessed from the river itself. Visitors arrive either by kayak or on the Sweetwater Cruise from Corinna, gliding quietly along the dark, reflective waters of the Pieman River before pulling in at a small landing.

From here, a short set of stairs leads up to a timber boardwalk, which winds gently through the rainforest for approximately 200 metres to a viewing platform overlooking Lovers Falls.

The Short Walk to the Viewing Platform

The boardwalk to Lovers Falls is easy and well-maintained, making the experience accessible once you reach the landing point. As you walk, towering trees, moss-covered trunks, and lush undergrowth surround you, creating a cool, green tunnel through the forest.

At the viewing platform, you’re rewarded with a clear view of the waterfall as it spills dramatically into the river below. It’s a peaceful spot to pause, take photos, and soak in the feeling of being truly immersed in Tasmania’s wild West Coast landscape.

How to Visit Lovers Falls

The only way to visit Lovers Falls is via Corinna, a remote riverside settlement and wilderness retreat.

From Corinna, you can:

  • Hire a kayak and paddle along the Pieman River at your own pace, or

  • Join the Sweetwater Cruise, a relaxed guided river journey that includes a stop at Lovers Falls

Both options offer a beautiful way to experience the river, rainforest, and surrounding wilderness.

Why Lovers Falls Is Worth the Journey

Lovers Falls isn’t just about the waterfall — it’s about the journey to get there. The combination of river travel, rainforest boardwalks, and remote wilderness makes this one of Tasmania’s most memorable waterfall experiences.

If you’re looking for something a little different on the West Coast — away from crowds, roads, and noise — Lovers Falls is a magical place to slow down and connect with nature.
