Where the Murray River Meets the Rainforest

Nestled in the scenic foothills of the Kirrama Range, the Murray River tumbles over giant boulders before plunging into a series of cool, clear rock pools below. An Easy Walk to a Close-Up View

The Yalgay Ginja Bulumi Walk

For a more immersive experience, follow the Yalgay Ginja Bulumi Walk, a 1.8-kilometre return track that winds through open forest, shady rainforest and rocky sections. The walk begins halfway down the left side of the campground from the river boardwalk.

While the track has a few uneven areas, the reward at the end is well worth it — a spectacular elevated view looking down over Murray Falls and the surrounding gorge.

Murray Falls is a great spot to slow down and enjoy the day. The campground is set within the rainforest and is complemented by picnic tables, toilets and a spacious day-use area. Getting to Murray Falls

Murray Falls is clearly signposted from the Bruce Highway and is easy to access for most vehicles. It is located 41 kilometres north-west of Cardwell and 36 kilometres south-west of Tully.

The final 2 kilometres into the national park are gravel and can be a little rough, so drive according to the conditions. There is plenty of parking available in the day-use area, suitable for buses and motorhomes.

Visiting Tips

Bring swimmers and a towel – the rock pools are perfect for cooling off.
Arrive early for a quieter swim and softer light.
Wear reef or water shoes for the rocky riverbed.
Check conditions after rain, as water levels can rise quickly.
Allow extra time if you plan to walk, swim and picnic.
