Nug Nug Reserve Campground - Myrtleford Victoria
Nug Nug Reserve is a relaxed, low-cost bush campground near Myrtleford and Mount Buffalo National Park in Victoria’s High Country. Surrounded by trees and open grassy areas, it’s a popular spot for camping, unwinding, and exploring the beautiful Ovens Valley region. The reserve is located 13 kilometres south of Myrtleford along Buffalo River Road. Myrtleford is approximately 280 kilometres north-east of Melbourne, making Nug Nug Reserve an easy and affordable High Country camping option.
Getting There & Camp Setup
Access to Nug Nug Reserve from Myrtleford is mostly via sealed roads, with only the final few kilometres on a well-maintained gravel road. We found access easy, even for larger vehicles.
The campground offers a mix of dirt and grassy campsites, most of which are flat and well spread out. There are plenty of powered and unpowered sites, and camping is on a first-come, first-served basis. Once you choose your site, the caretaker will come around to collect fees and answer any questions.
We chose a flat site near the BBQ hut with fewer tall trees, which gave us good solar. There are plenty of shaded sites throughout the campground if you prefer to camp under the trees. We stayed in October and found the campground quiet and uncrowded.
Camping Fees
Nug Nug Reserve offers excellent value for money:
$7.50 per adult per night
$1.00 per child (ages 6–17)
$10.00 per day for power
This makes an unpowered site for two adults $15.00 per night, and a powered site $25.00 per night.
Facilities & Amenities
Nug Nug Reserve is well equipped for a comfortable low cost stay
Facilities include:
Powered and unpowered sites
Two modern amenity buildings with flushing toilets
Cold showers
Multiple water taps throughout the campground
Undercover electric BBQ huts

Rubbish and recycling bins
A dump point near the newer amenities building
For families and active campers, there’s also a tennis court and a combined netball and basketball court.
Nug Nug Creek & Things to Do
Nug Nug Creek winds its way through the reserve and is a real highlight of the campground. Several campsites are located close to the creek, creating a peaceful setting.

Nearby Supplies & Local Stops
On our way to Nug Nug Reserve, we stopped at Milawa Mustard for a quick tasting and picked up some delicious mustards and pickles — a great addition to any camp meal.
Myrtleford is only 13 kilometres away and has everything you might need, including supermarkets, cafés, butchers, hotels, chemists, service stations, and specialty shops.
We visited Clyde Street Butchery in Myrtleford and picked up a blade beef roast, which we cooked up at camp in the Weber as a delicious mustard-encrusted roast beef.
