Shepparton Top 10 Things to Do ~ Victoria

Shepparton is a lovely regional City in the Goulburn Valley in Victoria, 190 kilometres north of Melbourne.


It has a fantastic lake, a thriving arts scene and fascinating museums. Here are our favourite things to do in Shepparton.

Victoria Park Lake


Victoria Park Lake is a beautiful lake and recreational area located in the centre of Shepparton. It is popular with both visitors and locals for walking, cycling, birdwatching, picnics and relaxing.


There is a 1.8-kilometre walking track around the lake as well as playgrounds, BBQs, picnic tables and toilets.

Mooving Art


Mooving Art is a fun and colourful exhibition of life-sized cows that are located in parks, gardens, public spaces and businesses around Shepparton.


There are more than 90 of these colourful fibreglass cows in the herd. Each individual and distinctive cow has been painted by local artists, and they regularly move around.


A great place to see some of the herd is in Monash Park, but keep an eye out, as you could see them anywhere around town.

MOVE – Museum of Vehicle Evolution


MOVE is a must-see for car, truck, and motorbike enthusiasts. It is located at Emerald Bank and is open daily from 10.00 am. To 4.00 pm.


This huge museum is home to an incredible collection of cars, trucks, buses, motorbikes, and so much more.


Collections you can see at MOVE include the Furphy Museum, Garth Wallace Harley Davidson Collection, Farren Bicycle Collection, Clayton Gramophones, Telephones, and Radios, the Loel Thomson Costume Collection, the Classic Bus Collection and the  Kenworth Dealer Truck Pavilion.

Chocolate Apple Factory


You can find the Chocolate Apple Factory right next to the Windmill at Emerald Bank on the Goulburn Valley Highway.


This family-owned shop has a delicious variety of chocolate apples, handcrafted chocolates, lollies and freeze-dried delights.


Their signature treat is a Pink Lady apple dipped in creamy caramel, covered in chocolate, and topped with tasty sweets. They also offer a free tasting!

Discover Street Art


As you wander around Shepparton, you will discover vibrant street art and murals decorating laneways and building walls.


The Aboriginal Street Art Project comprises several large-scale murals that celebrate the local Aboriginal history and culture within the region.


These murals were painted by renowned street artist Adnate, who is highly regarded amongst the local Aboriginal community.


There is a plaque on the artwork that explains the mural and its significance.

Shepparton Heritage Centre


The Shepparton Heritage Centre museum is built around Shepparton's oldest surviving building: The Public Hall of 1873.


It is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10.30 am to 4.00 pm and closed on Mondays. 


You can discover Shepparton’s history as you wander around the museum that is filled with fascinating displays on local farming, industry, and pioneer life.

Shepparton Observation Tower


The Observation Tower is located at 8 Fraser Street in Shepparton’s CBD, and is open every day.


The Tower is 76.2 metres high, and there is a tourist viewing platform at 35 metres.


Wander up the 8 flights of stairs with over 160 steps to the viewing platform, and you will be rewarded with wonderful 360-degree views over Shepparton, the Goulburn River, and the surrounding farmland.

Shepparton Art Museum (SAM)


Shepparton’s Art Museum (SAM) is an architectural showpiece and is one of Victoria's outstanding regional art museums


It is open from Wednesday to Monday from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm and closed on Tuesdays.


SAM has 4 major exhibition spaces, including a dedicated Children's Gallery, and is home to an impressive collection of Australian ceramics and contemporary art.

Australian Botanic Gardens


Just a few minutes from town, the Australian Botanic Gardens showcase beautiful native plants and feature bushland walking tracks with stunning views over the Goulburn River floodplain. 


The themed gardens planted with Australian native plants are designed to represent the cultural, environmental, historical and agricultural characteristics of Shepparton and the Goulburn Valley.


The Australian Botanic Gardens have native grassy bushland, wetlands, and a 7-hectare, 30 metre-high reclaimed landfill area with a lookout on top, adjacent to the Goulburn and Broken Rivers.

Explore the Silo Art Trail


On the Goulburn Valley Silo Art Trail, you will see massive murals painted on grain silos that tell the stories of local communities and culture.

At Goorambat, renowned Australian artist Jimmy Dvate has painted the Barking Owl on one of the silos and three Clydesdales on another silo.


At Devenish, the impressive artworks by Cam Scale are a tribute to the men and women of the Devenish community who have enlisted in military service.


In St James, artist Tim Bowtell has painted a mural of Sir George Coles, the founder of Coles supermarkets, who was a local to the St James township.


The Tungamah silo features a selection of birds and was painted by Western Australian street artist Sobrane Simcock.
