The Original Eumundi Market, Queensland - Where Creativity Comes Alive
Set in the heart of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, in Queensland, The Original Eumundi Markets are more than just a place to shop — they’re an experience. Bursting with colour, creativity, music, and mouth-watering food, these iconic markets are Australia’s largest and most celebrated artisan markets. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning for another wander, Eumundi Markets deliver an unforgettable slice of local culture and community spirit.
On our visit to the Original Eumundi Markets, we wandered around soaking up the atmosphere and then made a candle at the Make Your Own Candle stall. We ate some delicious food, admired the artwork around the market grounds and enjoyed listening to some live music.
A Sunshine Coast Icon
Located in the historic village of Eumundi, the markets are held every Saturday from 7.00 am to 2.00 pm and every Wednesday from 8.00 am to 2.00 pm. On market days, the town comes alive as visitors from across Australia — and around the world — arrive to browse, eat, listen, and soak up the vibrant atmosphere.
From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted with music drifting through the air, colourful stalls lining the paths, and the buzz of conversation and creativity everywhere you turn.

The heart of The Original Eumundi Markets lies in its famous motto - Make it • Bake it • Sew it • Grow it - This philosophy ensures the markets remain true to their artisan roots. As you wander, you’ll discover an incredible range of locally made artworks, jewellery, fashion, woodwork, homewares, skincare, and unique handcrafted treasures — all created by the stallholders themselves.
It’s the perfect place to find something meaningful to take home, whether that’s a statement piece of art, a handmade gift, or a keepsake that tells a story.
Hands-On Fun at the Markets
One of the joys of Eumundi Markets is that you can do more than just browse — you can get involved. On our visit, we stopped at the Make Your Own Candle stall and created our own candles. It’s a fun, hands-on activity for all ages. You choose your jar size, layer brightly coloured wax particles to create your own design, then seal it up to take home. With plenty of colours and beautiful scents to choose from, it’s easy to see why this stall is so popular.
Picnic Lane & Local Produce
Head up to the top terraces to explore Picnic Lane, where the focus shifts to locally grown produce, fresh flowers, and regional goods. This area has a slightly more relaxed feel, making it a lovely place to slow down, chat with growers, and admire the quality of Sunshine Coast produce. You’ll also find more artisan stalls and talented musicians adding to the atmosphere as you wander.
Live Music & Market Vibes
Music is woven into the fabric of the Eumundi Markets. We found a spot near the main stage area, grabbed some food, and settled in to enjoy live music. A highlight was listening to Ben Ross, a talented singer and guitarist whose sound blends blues and country rock with a relaxed coastal edge. Sitting back with good food and live music is one of those simple pleasures that makes a visit to Eumundi Markets feel so special.
From Humble Beginnings to World Famous
It’s hard to believe that this iconic market began in 1979 with just three stalls and eight customers. By 1990, it had grown to 203 stalls and 260,000 visitors.
Today, The Original Eumundi Markets host over 600 stalls and attract more than one million visitors each year, making them not only a Sunshine Coast highlight but a nationally and internationally recognised destination.
