The Willows Reserve - Wahgunyah - Victoria

The Willows Reserve is a lovely camping spot along the Murray River near Wahgungah in Victoria.

It is located at the end of Short Street and is only 600 metres from Wahgunyah. It is a popular destination for camping, swimming, fishing, and just relaxing by the river.

Wahgunyah is located approximately 300 kilometres from Melbourne.

Camping & Amenities

Access to The Willows Reserve is along a sealed road, and the camping surface is gravel with grass areas along the river and other camping sites.

There are only a few riverfront spots available, but there are more places to camp along the road and back from the river.

We were lucky to get one of the lovely flat, riverfront sites. The camping area has lots of trees, so most of the sites have shade during the day. We stayed here at the end of September, and it was not very busy.

A committee looks after this camping ground, and they regularly maintain and upgrade the grounds. This is a donation campground, and there is a box along the track to put your donation in. If you don’t have cash, there are details at the donation box to direct deposit your donation.

There is a toilet located near the entrance, as well as several water taps with town water available. There are also picnic tables and BBQs available in the day-use area.

Important Information

  • The Willows is dog-friendly, keep your dogs on a lead and clean up after them.

  • Fires are allowed as long as there is no Fire Ban.

  • The camping spots are easily accessible for motorhomes.

  • We had good Telstra mobile coverage when we stayed.

  • A Flushing Toilet is available.

  • Town water is available.

  • No Rubbish bins - please take your rubbish with you.

  • There is a 7-day limit for camping.

Wahgunyah & Corowa Town Centre

The Wahgunyah Town Centre has a Fish and Chip Shop, Service Station and Bottleshop. It’s a short drive or you can walk over the bridge to Corowa in New South Wales, which has supermarkets, cafes, hotels, butcher shops and plenty of other shops to browse in.

Rutherglen

On our way to the Willow Reserve, we visited Rutherglen. Rutherglen is a historic wine-growing area, only 10 kilometres from Waygunyah, that is famous for its world-renowned fortified wines, particularly Muscats.

We visited Stanton and Killeen for a wine tasting and bought a bottle of Muscat.
