Hidden within the lush rainforest of Wooroonooran National Park, in Far North Queensland, Wallacha Falls is one of those peaceful waterfalls that rewards those who slow down and look a little closer. Easily accessed from the Palmerston Highway, this beautiful cascade plunges into the rainforest below and is best admired from its dedicated lookout — making it a perfect stop for travellers wanting a spectacular view without a demanding hike.

Where the Rainforest Comes Alive

Wallacha Falls is formed by Henrietta Creek, which tumbles over moss-covered basalt rocks and spills into the dense Wet Tropics rainforest. Rather than one single drop, the water flows through a series of cascades of varying sizes and intensity, creating a layered and ever-changing scene depending on rainfall.

The surrounding rainforest is thick and vibrant, alive with birdsong and the sound of rushing water — a classic North Queensland experience.

An Easy Walk to the Lookout

From the roadside, a short track leads you into the rainforest. Follow this path until you reach a signpost, then turn left onto the Wallacha Falls Walk. The walk is an easy 1.4 kilometres return, following an undulating gravel track that winds gently through the trees.

At the end of the track, you’ll reach a viewing platform where Wallacha Falls can be seen framed through the rainforest canopy. There is no access to the base of the falls, helping preserve the natural environment and making this a safe and relaxed viewing experience.

Don’t Miss Nearby Tchupala Falls

While visiting Wallacha Falls, it’s well worth taking the short walk to Tchupala Falls, located nearby. This lesser-known waterfall offers a different perspective on Henrietta Creek and makes a great addition to your visit, turning a simple stop into a rewarding mini rainforest wander.

Getting to Wallacha Falls

Wallacha Falls is easily accessed from Innisfail. Drive north on the Bruce Highway for 5 kilometres, then turn west onto the Palmerston Highway and continue for approximately 30 kilometres. Look for the clearly marked sign for Wallacha and Tchupala Falls.

There is limited off-road parking along the side of the main road, from where you can walk through the trees to the start of the track.

Visiting Tips

Best after rain – the falls are most impressive following rainfall.
Wear comfortable shoes – the gravel track is easy but can be damp.
Take your time – pause at the lookout and enjoy the rainforest sounds.
Combine both falls – allow extra time to visit nearby Tchupala Falls.
No swimming access – enjoy Wallacha Falls safely from the viewing platform.
